Without a doubt he was the best player on the field during the United States’ 4-0 win against Trinidad and Tobago during Tuesday’s World Cup qualifier. So who is this teenager and where did he come from?
Christian Pulisic is a top American prospect, and is the youngest player (at just 17 years of age) to represent the senior national team in a FIFA World Cup qualifier when he was called up by coach Jürgen Klinsmann in January vs Guatemala.
His rise in the US national program has been mirrored by his impressive rise through the Borussia Dortmund youth system, where he played just 15 games before being brought into the first team in the middle of the 2015–16 season.
With already 3 goals in 8 caps, Pulisic is quickly become a crowning jewel for the United States national team. His quick feet and positive runs separate him from other attack-minded midfielders despite his average stature. While listed at 5’8″, his habit of cutting in from the left side towards the middle with his right foot is drawing comparisons to Lionel Messi. Maybe that’s a stretch but Pulisic is no where close to his peak.
As a self-confessed Justin Bieber fan, Christian Pulisic is still a baby at 17. Playing football in Europe is always going to be a step in the right direction for development purposes and he should get that at Dortmund. Only time will tell how far his greatness will grow.
